Touching Hearts with Artistic Depth,

Stages—An Orchestra Loved by Daegu,
Acclaimed by the World.
Representing Daegu, a UNESCO Creative City of Music,

the Daegu Symphony Orchestra (DSO) was founded in 1964 and boasts a history and tradition spanning over 60 years. Based on a balanced repertoire ranging from classical to modern music and innovative programming, the DSO presents diverse and experimental stages, significantly contributing to the development and popularization of classical music in Korea.

To expand the horizons of classical music, the DSO delivers the emotion of music to citizens through a wide array of annual performances. These include ‘Subscription Concerts’ featuring authentic classical repertoire, unique ‘Special Concerts,’ ‘Citizen Happiness Concerts’ for the local community, and ‘Outreach Concerts.’ The orchestra is also dedicated to nurturing the next generation through ‘Young Artist / Rising Artist Concerts,’ which discover promising talent among teenagers and university students, as well as educational programs like ‘School Concerts’ and ‘Classroom Concerts,’ designed to make classical music accessible and enjoyable for students.

The orchestra's international presence began with performances in Tokyo and Osaka,

Japan, in 2010. In 2011, the DSO garnered significant attention as the Korean representative at the opening stage of ‘Asia Orchestra Week 2011’ in Tokyo. In 2015, it held a concert in Hiroshima commemorating ‘Daegu Day’ and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. In 2016, the orchestra expanded its global reach with a ‘Three-Nation European Tour,’ performing at the Berlin Philharmonie (Germany), Smetana Hall in Prague (Czech Republic), and the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna (Austria). Most recently, in September 2025, marking the 60th anniversary of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations, the DSO continued its cultural exchange with major Japanese cities through the ‘World Orchestra Festival in Japan,’ touring Fukuoka, Hiroshima, and Osaka. Furthermore, the DSO is consistently invited to perform at major domestic music festivals and venues, including the ‘Orchestra Festival’ at the Seoul Arts Center.

Since November 2013, the DSO has been resident at the Daegu Concert House,

a dedicated classical music venue. In October 2023, the orchestra welcomed BAEK, Jin-hyoun as the 11th Music Director and Conductor. Under his musical passion and leadership, the DSO continues to create high-quality classical stages, breathing in unison with the citizens.
