A History of Change

• Daegu Concert House begins

  On October 5, 1975, Daegu Concert House was inaugurated at Taepyeong-ro 2-ga, Jung-gu, Daegu as the only art performance hall in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. It had Grand Hall, a multipurpose performance hall with 1,618 seats, orchestra pit, and revolving stage, a small assembly hall with 342 seats for meetings or performances, and an exhibition hall with three exhibition rooms. Professor Kim In-ho, the leading architect in Daegu, designed the Grand Hall’s eaves and colonnades, which have become leading architectural assets in the region.

• "Daegu Concert House in the 2000s"

  Towards more efficient and professional management of Daegu Citizens Hall, Daegu Infrastructure Corporation was designated the managing organization in 2000, after which a variety of performances and exhibitions took place in the following 10 years, making Daegu Citizens Hall one of Daegu’s major cultural spaces. In 2009, Korean Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO) signed a memorandum of understanding with Daegu Citizens Hall to renovate the outdated facilities 35 years after their construction. As a result, the Hall became a major cultural venue in the city, complete with most of the facilities it has today.

• "Reborn as a center for the performing arts, Daegu Concert House "

  After renovations from April 2011 to August 2013, the Grand Hall’s eaves and colonnades were restored, and a Performance Support Hall added, making the Daegu Concert House a specialized concert hall. The Grand Hall has 1,284 seats, the Chamber Hall has 248 seats, parking lots can hold 287 vehicles (215 underground, 72 in the parking tower). In addition, there is an exhibition room, practice rooms, and commercial facilities. The Grand Hall was restructured to a shoebox-shape for the sake of better acoustics and the distance between audience and the Chamber Hall performers reduced to provide greater vivacity in audio and visual terms. The renovation has turned Daegu Concert House into a beautiful, world-class concert hall for the performing arts with a state-of-the-art sound system.
